History
| The WA Division of the Institute commenced in June 1976.
It was formerly a division of the national Building Societies Institute (Inc). Members in this State had previously been members of the NSW Division of BSI.
Following a period of rationalisation within the Building Society industry, a decision was made in October 1987 to broaden the membership base. In line with this decision a change of name was determined necessary, the Institute became known as it is today:

Charter
To create a forum for our members to network with fellow financial service providers and suppliers, through the provision of informative and educational events and seminars.
Objectives
The Objects of the Institute are:
→ to promote the highest standards of competence and practice among members of the Institute and to further their professionalism and advancement in the interests of the public;
→ to promote skills of management and administration in members of the Institute with particular emphasis on the provision of financial services to, and for, members of the public;
→ to provide a facility for the professional education of employees in the financial services industry to enhance their ability to perform their duties, to assist in their own professional development and for the benefit of their employer and their customers or clients;
→ to oversee the level of professionalism of members by setting and maintaining standards in education, experience and other qualifications for admission to membership of the Institute;
→ to promote the interests of members individually or collectively and negotiate on their behalf where, in the opinion of the National Council, it is in the interest of the profession and the majority of members to do so;
→ to promote, encourage and assist members in the area of networking;
→ to publish and distribute newsletters and other information which would be of interest to members.

Corporate membership is available to organisations with affiliations to the Institute.
Such membership entitles nominees of the member to attend all functions at member cost. |
The Institute is the professional body of the industry. Membership reflects an interest in a successful career within the industry, and displays to an employer the desire to keep abreast of developments in the industry and improve educational standards.
